The city of Viseu enjoys a privileged location making it one of the most enchanting places in Portugal. Nestled between the Serra da Estrela and Serra do Caramulo mountain ranges, it is surrounded by vineyards and acres of pine forests that go on and on, making it known as the ‘city of the Green Pine’. Viseu is also enlivened by numerous parks featuring colourful flowerbeds scattered across the city, like the one in its main square, the Praça da República, also known as the Rossio, containing the statue dedicated to Henry de Hafiz, also known as Price Henry the Navigator.
Its historical centre, enclosed by ancient walls, is a maze of narrow streets lined with small shops, artisans’ workshops, and picturesque cafés. Two important monuments dominate the city from the hill, the Manueline Gothic Viseu Cathedral, also known as La Sé dating back to the 12th century, and, facing it is the Church of the Misericordia, with its Baroque façade and two bell towers that contrasts with the neoclassical interiors, enlivening the otherwise austere appearance of the square.
Historic buildings dialogue with modern structures, such as the various health centres and hospitals. In particular, a major hospital recently required the modernisation of the lighting system in some rooms and wards. Implemented with state-of-the-art technology and environmental sustainability in mind, the lighting project was entrusted to Disano due to its long-standing expertise in the sector: LED Panel, Liset 2.0 from Fosnova (Disano Group) and Eco Lex Q were installed to meet different specifications, both technical and aesthetic.
Disano‘s intervention in the lighting system contributed to making the healthcare facility even more special, where patients are not only guaranteed efficient and qualified healthcare, but great attention was also paid to their psychological well-being. Hence, the need to create a pleasant, relaxing and, above all, sustainable environment – this is where the lighting design plays a key role.
The lighting design included the installation of Eco Lex Q recessed spotlights and LED Panel ceiling lights, which mount technologically advanced LED sources. The result is that of stable luminous flux and flicker-free thereby protecting users’ sight, as well as a drastic reduction in energy and maintenance costs.
In transit areas as well as in the waiting rooms, Liset 2.0 have been installed, with a linear, modular design, allowing for various solutions and with high lighting performance. In these luminaires, designed by Fosnova (Disano Group), the latest generation of LED sources ensure high colour rendering allowing the best possible vision and maximum well-being for our eyes.
Overall, Disano‘s modern lighting system has contributed to making every area of the Portuguese hospital a more welcoming and comfortable place, both for patients and the hospital staff.
