The penitentiary in Haren, a district north-east of Brussels, Belgium, is a composite, recently built facility housing more than a thousand inmates. Indeed, it is a veritable prison &#8216;village&#8217;, in which inmates, equipped with a personal badge, can move freely from their building to common areas, such as laboratories and interview rooms, in a secure and controlled manner. The facility also contains a sports hall, an observation centre, a psychiatric ward and a medical room. Therefore, it is no longer a single complex, but a place that seeks to facilitate the free movement of prisoners and their interaction. To this end, they are housed in the different units according to their profiles and age.
To illuminate the Belgian penitentiary, various products were selected based on specific area needs, all featuring high energy-efficiency and cutting-edge technology. This led to the installation of the luminaires by Disano and Fosnova (Disano Group), global Italian experts in the manufacturing and design of luminaires since 1957.
The new lighting installation included several different products: Thema, Oblò, Studio, Saving, LED Panel, Saturno, Rodio, Forum LED, Sella, Stelvio. Each one of these fixtures is equipped with extremely high-performance, latest-generation LED sources, the only ones capable of providing countless advantages, including excellent colour rendering index, considerable energy savings, stable luminous flux (flicker free) and perfect lumen maintenance over their very long life span. These are exceptional lighting characteristics that make Disano luminaires suitable for ensuring maximum visual comfort in prisons.
In addition, the selected lighting products are equipped with dimmable LEDs to regulate their brightness. This allows only the necessary amount of light to be emitted, avoiding energy wastage, optimising consumption.
Last but not least, materials are carefully evaluated and selected, so that the luminaire is robust and unalterable over time.
In the prison village of Haren, the innovative lighting set-up implemented by Disano provides high quality, energy-efficient light, which is both visually comfortable and energy-saving.
