The Garibaldi-Centro hospital is located in Catania, Sicily, and is a real point of reference for the local community. The Garibaldi-Centro hospital is a public health establishment founded in 1848 as the &#8216;Albergo dei poveri accattoni di entrambi i sessi&#8216; (Hotel for the poor beggars of both sexes) and entrusted to the Christian charity of the people of Catania. Years later, after the relocation of the site and following an increase in the number of in-patients, in 1883 the &#8216;Albergo&#8217; received funds from the municipality to carry out structural work and changed its name to Garibaldi Hospital. However, it was not until 1970 that it became an independent health facility, no longer managed by the municipality.
The hospital in Catania is also a highly specialised hospital of national importance also known in Italy under the status of A.R.N.A.S (Azienda ospedaliera di Rilievo Nazionale di Alta Specializzazione). A state-of-the-art emergency centre is now operational, spanning four floors and furnished with advanced medical equipment. It boasts spacious, well-equipped areas like an ambulance arrival area, three operating theatres, an intensive care unit, and a semi-intensive care unit. The building, which was built to be earthquake-proof, is also equipped with an innovative solar heating system to generate hot water, a photovoltaic roof covering and panels over the parking area.
Disano played a significant role in revamping the emergency area, particularly in selecting dedicated, high-performance lighting products necessary to carry out the tasks at hand.
In detail, Ermetica and LED Panel fixtures were installed in spaces designated for both medical staff and the public, such as the waiting rooms. These luminaires represent top-tier indoor LED lighting technology. They are equipped with LED sources characterised by high quality light emission, which results in the right light distribution, proper heat dissipation and excellent colour rendering. A further advantage is the guarantee of a stable and precise light flux, minimising flicker, which is extremely dangerous to our eyes. High-performance LEDs provide other benefits, such as long service life and lower energy and maintenance costs.
For the outdoor areas and car parks, Sella and Vega products were chosen. These streetlights are also equipped with advanced optics and modern LED sources to ensure excellent lighting quality and maximum energy savings.
Disano&#8216;s luminaires succeeded in effectively illuminating various sections of the Garibaldi-Centro emergency centre, both indoors and outdoors, providing safe, efficient, stable, and energy-saving lighting.
