Founded in January 2007 through the merger of Banca Intesa and Sanpaolo IMI, Intesa Sanpaolo builds on the legacy of more than three hundred banking institutions that have shaped the history of the Italian economy since the Renaissance. Institutions such as the Monte di Pietà di Napoli, founded in 1539, the Compagnia di San Paolo, founded in 1563, and the Milan-based Cassa di Risparmio delle Provincie Lombarde, founded in 1823, were established to support people in need and combat the spread of usury. Following the privatisation of the banking sector at the end of the 20th century, Banca Intesa and Sanpaolo IMI emerged as two major banking groups in 1998 and officially merged in 2007 to form Italy’s largest banking group, Intesa Sanpaolo S.p.A. While its registered office is in Turin, Milan was chosen as the location for its secondary operational headquarters.
Today, Intesa Sanpaolo is a highly robust organisation, confirming its position as Italy’s leading banking group in terms of branch network and market share, as well as one of the main constituents of the FTSE MIB index on the Italian Stock Exchange.
In recent years, Intesa Sanpaolo has accelerated its digital transformation, strengthening its technological infrastructure through the integration of cloud computing and artificial intelligence to guarantee the highest standards of security and resilience in data management.
Against this backdrop of technological innovation, Disano oversaw the lighting design for the Data Centre’s offices, selecting recessed ceiling luminaires from the Creta series. The installation ensures optimal light distribution across workspaces, combining distinctive Italian design and craftsmanship with high energy efficiency.
Featuring lenticular optics and backlight technology, these luminaires provide excellent glare control (UGR<17), minimising reflections on computer screens and enhancing the staff’s day-to-day visual comfort. The stable light output further contributes to visual wellbeing and helps protect eye health.
Furthermore, the entire system is managed by DISMART 2.0, an agile and intuitive management platform that harnesses wireless technology to deliver significant energy savings and enhanced visual comfort. More than a tool for reducing energy consumption or customising lighting atmospheres, Disano’s DISMART 2.0 solution serves as a strategic ally in achieving efficiency and sustainability goals in office buildings.
The lighting design for Intesa Sanpaolo’s data centre offices demonstrates how modern lighting must go beyond simply ensuring visibility. Through the synergy between the Creta ceiling lights and the DISMART 2.0 platform, Disano has created an exemplary project that combines Italian design, visual wellbeing, and smart energy management, transforming workspaces into safe, sustainable and productive environments.
