Francavilla al Mare is one of Italy’s numerous charming seaside resorts, blending stunning coastline views with hills and a rich tapestry of historical and artistic heritage.
Stretching over 8 kilometres (5 miles) of soft sandy beaches, the town is famous for the Michetti Convent, a true landmark also known as the D’Annunzio Cenacolo. In the late 19th century, Francesco Paolo Michetti, an Italian painter and politician, bought the then disused religious building, transforming it into his home and a vibrant cultural hub. The former convent became a meeting place for notable figures in Italy’s artistic and literary circles, including Gabriele D’Annunzio, Edoardo Scarfoglio, a journalist and publisher, and Matilde Serao, Italy’s first woman journalist to found and run a daily newspaper.
The city centre, the medieval quarter of Civitella, includes several important buildings: the Church of St. Francis, much of which was damaged during World War II bombings, and the Church of St. Mary Major, dating back to the 15th century and housing a monstrance from 1413. In addition, three defensive towers still rise over this historic quarter: the so-called Silver Tower, with its semi-cylindrical shape; the Masci Tower, built in the late 16th century; and the Ciarrapico Tower from 1660, now home to the Maritime Museum.
Running along the seafront is a scenic cycle path that crosses Francavilla from north to south, dotted with small parks. To upgrade the lighting along certain stretches, the local administration turned to Disano, known for its street lighting solutions that deliver top-level performance, reduce energy consumption, and minimise maintenance costs.
The choice fell on Volo fixtures designed in line with the aesthetic principles of renowned Made in Italy excellence. This product is engineered to optimise LED performance, ensuring effective heat dissipation and excellent light distribution.
The LED sources in Volo deliver exceptional results, with colour temperatures of 3000K and 4000K. The range of multiple wattages with different types of optics makes it possible to illuminate bike or pedestrian paths with a diffusion and light output that is always appropriate to the context, allowing for great savings.
What’s more, these sources minimise pollutants because they do not generate emissions that are harmful to either the human eye or the planet, emitting a safe and sustainable light. Luminaires like Volo reflect Disano‘s full commitment to the principles of modern green economy.
For the lighting design in Francavilla al Mare, the installed fixtures offer not only optimal visibility but also exceptional efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability, ensuring visual safety while fully respecting both residents and their environment. These results, however, can only be achieved with lighting solutions of the highest quality and design, hallmarks of every product manufactured by Disano.
