Félix Houphouët-Boigny was the first President of Ivory Coast, holding office for thirty-three years, from 1960 to 1993. Under his leadership, the African state experienced a period of great prosperity and economic development, so much so that it was known as the Ivorian miracle. During renovations to host the Abidjan Games, the town&#8217;s main stadium, originally named Géo André in memory of the French Olympic athlete in 1952, was rightfully dedicated to Félix Houphouët-Boigny in 1964.
The stadium presents itself as a multifunctional facility primarily hosting football matches. Additionally, it accommodates events in various sports like athletics and rugby, along with social gatherings. In 2017, after undergoing additional modernisation works, the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium played host to the Francophonie Games, which include both sporting and cultural events.
More recently, in 2023, the stadium was once again inaugurated after another series of renovations with the friendly match between the Ivory Coast and Morocco. Great attention was given to the lighting system, designed with a focus on high-performance and innovative technology.
