Villetta Di Negro, Genoa’s green oasis, covers around two hectares of land and features busts, grottoes, fountains, and a museum surrounded by dense vegetation. Situated just a short walk from the historical centre, the park has a rich history dating back to the late 18th century. When the site was no longer needed for defence, Marquis Giancarlo Di Negro bought the land in 1802. Before that, in 1795, Ippolito Durazzo had leased the area and opened a botanical garden there. The marquis made the estate his residence, commissioning the construction of a mansion also to house his collection of classical artefacts. Besides, he founded a botanical school and designed the park in the English landscape style.

After the death of Marquis Giancarlo Di Negro, ownership of Villetta Di Negro passed to the Municipality of Genoa, which made several enhancements, including the creation of grottoes and the striking artificial waterfall. Unfortunately, the estate was destroyed during the bombings of World War II in 1942. In 1948, the Municipality initiated a project to build the Chiossone Museum of Oriental Art on the villa’s ruins. The design was entrusted to Genoese architect Mario Labò, who developed the museum in line with the principles of rationalist architecture.

Perched on an elevated position, Villetta Di Negro offers a captivating view of the city, with winding paths surrounded by lush vegetation. The park still boasts plane trees and sequoias, planted in the late 19th century, which are rare botanical specimens of impressive beauty.

A public park of such historical and natural significance, where art, culture and nature blend harmoniously, deserved top-quality lighting. To achieve this, the Municipality commissioned the lighting design to Disano, a leader in outdoor lighting. The solution came in the form of the Garda LED streetlamp, one of the company’s flagship lighting products.

This model delivers exceptional performance with LED sources offering colour temperatures of 3000K and 4000K.

Moreover, the range includes products with different wattages and multiple optical configurations, such as rotosymmetric, asymmetric, cycle, and street, allowing for tailored lighting of streets, pathways, and green spaces with appropriate light diffusion and power for each setting. This approach not only promotes energy savings but also reduces maintenance costs. The advanced LED technology guarantees the safety and visual comfort of residents, while being mindful of nocturnal flora and fauna. Luminaires fitted with advanced LED technology have been proven to be environmentally sustainable, as confirmed by numerous recent studies.

Garda‘s design exemplifies the elegance of Made in Italy, with a sleek, simple silhouette that harmonises with any setting, whether a natural landscape or an urban environment.

From dusk to the first light of dawn, Villetta di Negro is illuminated by Garda‘s soft, efficient glow, providing safe lighting that protects both citizens and the park’s delicate ecosystems. Thanks to its stability, efficiency, and eco-friendly design, the Disano streetlamp is a perfect fit for such a unique green space.
