The core value behind the founding of the social assistance and solidarity institute Opera della Provvidenza S. Antonio (O.P.S.A.) is providing care for people with severe disabilities. The institute was founded in 1955 when Monsignor Girolamo Bortignon, then Bishop of Padua, after visiting parishes in his diocese, expressed a strong desire to build a home for the most vulnerable individuals who had previously relied entirely on their families for support. Since the official opening in 1960, the O.P.S.A. has expanded with two additional facilities. In 1993, a residence was established for priests who, after years of service, found themselves alone and no longer self-sufficient. Then in 2005, the Casa Madre Teresa di Calcutta, a multifunctional centre for Alzheimer&#8217;s patients, was opened. This was followed in 2012 by the Casa San Massimiliano Kolbe, which provides care for elderly patients in the terminal stages of their disease.
Over the years, the O.P.S.A. has seen significant renovations and expansions. New pavilions have been added to the original eight halls, along with occupational laboratories, a gym and an auditorium. At the same time, numerous upgrades to meet modern regulations were initiated and completed in 2010.
More recently, the O.P.S.A. underwent further modernisation works, including a state-of-the-art lighting system installed by Disano using Liset 2.0 DALI lamps from Fosnova (a company of the Disano Group).
