Lighting fixtures: Astro LED
The municipal sports arena PalaMinardi is named after the famous Ragusa-born basketball player Giuseppe Minardi who died a few years before the stadium's construction in 1998. Since then it has been host to the basketball matches of the men's Virtus Ragusa that used to enthuse fans with amazing wins in major basketball championships, and of the women's Passalacqua Ragusa. However the facility also hosts other types of sports events, such as volleyball matches and martial arts.
Despite its recent construction, it has already undergone several renovation works, including the one in 2008 that extended the car park at the entrance to the facility.
A new lighting system was completed in 2016. With the installation of the most advanced LED sources, it ensured a drop in energy costs of 77%, consequently reducing CO2 emissions by 77%, and almost eliminating maintenance costs. Considering the initial investment and the costs for energy bills and maintenance, the overall savings will reach 70% over the next 10 years.
Another success for PalaMinardi was achieved by the Municipality of Ragusa that entrusted Disano illuminazione and Sonepar Italia with the relamping of the arena, by replacing 22 2000 W iodide spotlights with 32 420 W LED spotlights. Using LED sources means increasing energy savings, and Astro by Disano is definitely the best choice: with a thin and discreet housing it offers the benefits of LEDs and provides very advanced performance, great reliability and expanded lifespan.
